Wholebody Focusing

What is Wholebody Focusing?

Wholebody Focusing was founded by Kevin McEvenue, who melded his insights as an Alexander Teacher with the Focusing method over many years of experiential enquiry.

It is a natural process which invites the power of consciousness to awaken the wisdom of the living body, a knowing that is at the heart of every one of us.

Beneath our conditioned and stressful patterns of being, thinking, moving, and feeling, lies an inner wellspring of intelligence and vitality that knows how to unwind our stresses and traumas and move forward our life situations.

Wholebody Focusing reconnects us with this Body Wisdom, rebooting our particular life stoppages and opening us up to the fullness of life. One of Kevin’s foundational insights is summed up by the phrase:

When a part of me feels loved, it awakens to its own healing.

A Brief Description of the Process

Key to Wholebody Focusing is grounded presence, a particular quality of bodily consciousness, and an observing mind that is neutral, open, and holds a gentle awareness of my connection to everything.

In grounded presence there is both safety and connection to the larger environment and more life around me.

The body can then relax and unwind and with an invitation, open up to its own consciousness.

In response to my invitation from a grounded and neutral embodied experience of self, the body will move (these may be subtle internal movements or obvious external movements) and a previously ‘stopped process’ will come to life.

In relinquishing the need to control and staying with continued support of grounded presence, a felt sense will emerge, and the healing and completion of the previously stuck pattern will occur.

From this place new meaning will be made and the next steps for life forward movement will come to light.
